This information is meant to help guide you. If you have any questions, please make sure to ask your residents and site directors.

CLINICS

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • You will receive an email with a list of contact information and required material from the medical education coordinator

  • Be careful to review this list as some clinics may require you to bring a laptop, stethoscope, scrubs, etc.

  • It is generally recommended to bring a stethoscope to OB/Gyne clinic

  • Email the preceptor and their admin to let them know you will be joining them and to ask when/where the clinic will take place, preferably 2 days ahead of time to give them time to respond

  • While it is recommended to contact your staff beforehand, do not stress if you have trouble contacting them. All staff at SJHC are aware that you may have teaching and may join them after clinic has started

DETAILS

  • Storage: usually in the preceptor’s office, try to bring as little as possible

  • Lunch: usually a small room to store and heat up food, ask the admin

  • Dress code: scrubs and business casual, both acceptable

  • Start time: variable, confirm with the preceptor through email

  • Notes: depends on the clinic and preceptor

LOCATIONS

  • Colposcopy clinic: 1st floor, ACC

  • Clinic: Variable

L&D

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • Write your name, level of training (CC3), and phone number on the whiteboard as well as the contact sheet at the nursing station and at triage

  • Always introduce yourself to the patient before you attend their delivery; check in with the preceptor if you did not get a chance to do so before the patient started pushing

  • Useful to exchange phone numbers with the resident at the beginning of the shift

  • Day will start with post-partum rounding, usually on C-section patients. Help write the script during rounding to help expedite discharge throughout the day

  • Otherwise, day mostly spent in triage pending vaginal or cesarean deliveries

  • Always bring back-up socks! (you may be splashed with bodily fluids)

  • If you know the resident on your team for the day, let them know you will join later if there is a seminar in the morning. If you don’t know, it is fine to find them after and explain that you were at teaching

DETAILS

  • Storage: Locker room on 4th floor

  • Lunch: Fridge, microwave available across from locker room

  • Dress code: Scrubs

  • Start time: 7:00AM or after teaching

  • Notes:

    • Triage: OB Progress Note (full note format)

    • Labour Checks: Labour Assessment Note (cervical exams recorded in this template get updated on the board); typically the preferred template, check with the resident

LOCATIONS

  • Triage, OR, and L&D will all be at the FBC on 1st floor, OLM wing
