This information is meant to help guide you. If you have any questions, please make sure to ask your residents and site directors.

STAFF WEEK & CLINIC

​

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • On Staff Week you will be assigned to one staff and attend their clinic/OR time when possible. If you have free time later in the rotation you may also contact your staff to join them if convenient. Contact your staff in advanced of your rotation to introduce yourself.

  • Clinics will occur during other weeks as well (see below)

  • Bring your stethoscope for OB and Gyne clinics. A measuring tape for OB clinics would also be useful if you have one

  • Help clean the room in between patients

DETAILS

  • Storage: Locker room or clerk call room; Sometimes in the preceptor’s office

  • Lunch: food court; fridge and microwave in call room

  • Dress code: Scrubs 

  • Start time: variable, confirm on schedule


LOCATIONS

  • Women & Babies: M5 

  • Gyne Clinics: depends on staff; B7-C7

  • Chief Gyne clinic: M4

  • CREATE clinic (Thursday of Gyne week): 790 Bay St, Suite 1100

  • Colposcopy: B6

  • Gynecologic Oncology: Cancer Centre – T-wing, 1st Floor, Clinic D

GYNE

​

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • Primarily in the OR

  • Thursday is CREATE clinic downtown

  • Rounding: 

    • May or may not be part of gyne week

  • Never do a pelvic exam on an unconscious patient in the OR if you did not meet them previously 

  • Write your name, level of training (CC3), and glove size on the whiteboard in the OR. Grab your gloves and hand them over sterilely to the scrub nurse

DETAILS

  • Contact the chief resident before the start of the week to determine meeting time for morning rounds

  • Storage: Locker room or clerk call room

  • Lunch: food court; fridge and microwave in call room

  • Dress code: Scrubs 

  • Start time: variable, confirm on schedule or with resident

LOCATIONS

  • OR: 2nd floor M wing or Ground floor ORs   

  • Chief Gyne clinic: M4

  • CREATE clinic (Thursday of Gyne week): 790 Bay St, Suite 1100

GYNE ONC

​

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • Primarily in OR

  • Tuesday in colposcopy clinic

  • Wednesday in gyne-onc clinic

  • If assigned a preceptor, email them prior to the start of the week. If not, contact the gyne-onc fellow prior to the start of the week (it may be helpful to do this regardless)

  • Rounding may or may not be expected. Contact gyne-onc fellow regarding ward day (often the team is only on wards in the morning for rounding.) 

  • Write your name, level of training (CC3), and glove size on the whiteboard in the OR. Grab your gloves and hand them over sterilely to the scrub nurse

  • Notes: Make sure you have your dictation number available for gyne-onc clinic

L&D

​​

INFORMATION/TIPS

  • Write your name, level of training (CC3), and pager or phone number on the whiteboard at the nursing station and at triage 

  • Useful to exchange phone numbers with the resident at the beginning of the shift

  • Always introduce yourself to the patient before you attend their delivery; check in with the preceptor if you did not get a chance to do so before the patient started pushing 

  • Components: vaginal/cesarean deliveries on L&D, assessing patients in triage

  • Always bring back-up socks! (you may be splashed with bodily fluids)

  • If you are joining a C-section, enter the OR and let the nursing team know. Offer to grab your gown and your gloves and open sterilely to the scrub nurse.

  • Start time:

    • 7am on weekdays; 8am on weekends (postpartum rounding is generally completed by the overnight team)

  • Notes:

    • OBTV and SunnyCare are different logins

HRO

  • Components: ward rounding, new consults, triage assessments, and delivery of high-risk patients

​

  • Dress code: Scrubs 

  • Start time: confirm with resident/fellow

LOCATIONS

  • M5 ward

  • Typically meet at nursing station in morning for rounding

​

CALL

SEE ABOVE NOTES FOR L&D. ADDITIONAL INFO BELOW:

  • Call is always on L&D, regardless what week you are on 

  • Start time: 5:00 pm – 8:00 AM (if you have seminars the following morning you can leave to attend them)

  • Dinner: The team will order together – make sure you thank them! Team will leave food in staff room and eat together if possible. 

  • Call room: M5
